What is the Institute of Continuing Planning Education?

The Institute of Continuing Planning Education (ICPE) is a private and independent urban planning educational institute. Our mission is to provide training opportunities that link theory with practice. The educational process is continuous throughout a planner's career. The urban planning field is also comprehensive in its perspective, as planners must focus on the inter-relatedness of decisions. ICPE's programs provide urban planners with a comprehensive range of subjects that serve practitioners long after they attend a seminar.

How does ICPE provide more effective instruction?

Comprehensive Perspective: ICPE places its primary emphasis on learning a broad range of concepts. The Institute simplifies the learning process through its study guide, online instruction and applications exercises. Our lectures and study materials synthesize information in a simple and basic fashion that makes concepts easier and quicker to grasp. If a student needs additional instruction in a given area, ICPE refers the student to the appropriate planning literature.

Applications Exercises: Once a student has mastered a concept, application exercises familiarize a student with ways to implement a planning technique.

Diagnostic and Practice Exams: ICPE uses practice questions appropriately: to assess a student's knowledge and place a student in the test-taking mode. Our Diagnostic Exam evaluates exam-takers' strengths and weaknesses.

Our Online Support is Proactive, designed to guide you through a 16-week program with supplemental lessons and exercises.

Personalized and Responsive Instruction: ICPE also stresses a personalized and responsive approach in its seminars. We feature on-site lectures at given locations throughout the country. We encourage participants to provide questions. We also feature continuous online support.

What material does ICPE use in its seminar?

ICPE bases its lectures on a host of supplemental reading materials authored by leading authorities in the planning field. Our seminar also provides a study guide that synthesizes lectures and reading material. In addition, ICPE features three forms of questions designed to enhance a student's knowledge of various exam topics. These include practice exam questions, essay questions and applications exercises.

How does ICPE provide post-seminar support?

ICPE provides post-seminar support in an evaluation of a student's performance on the diagnostic exam and a set number of inquiries on exam-related topics. Inquiries are addressed through e-mail.
